Supporting Small Businesses: Papio Press

Supporting Small Businesses: Papio Press

Welcome to the third of my Supporting Small Businesses posts. Lockdown might be easing slightly (very slightly here in Wales), but these businesses still need our custom.

Papio Press is a small UK business creating illustrated art prints and accessories. The business is run by Harry and Zanna Goldhawk from their home in Cornwall. Their work is inspired by nature and they take care to be as environmentally-friendly as possible, including developing an eco-friendly packaging range for their online orders.

I’ve been eyeing-up items on their website for a while now, but it was only while I was shopping on Etsy just before Easter that I finally ordered.

I decided to get the Pack of 15 Papio Press Postcards with Floral Creature Illustrations to send out to friends and penpals. The postcards are A6 in size and are printed on 300gsm recycled card. The pack includes 15 unique illustrations of both real and mystical creatures. I’ve already sent a couple of the postcards out, which is why you can’t see the whole pack here.

Once you’ve seen one illustration by Papio Press, their other work becomes instantly recognisable. The illustrations are wonderful and unique.

Not only do they sell postcards, but they also sell other stationery such as greeting cards and calendars, as well as pins (which I love!), patches, jewellery, prints and more.

Papio Press currently mail orders out on Mondays and Thursdays with UK orders sent out 1st class (1-2 days to arrive) and international orders sent out via Royal Mail Standard International post (5-10 working days). It certainly didn’t take long for my order to arrive.

I’m sure I’ll be buying from Papio Press again.

Please note: I bought these postcards with my own money and I am in no way affiliated with Papio Press.

Wow, these are absolutely beautiful! I think they have quite a William Morris vibe (not the dinosaur one though!). I’ll have to check out their shop, thank you for the recommendation 🙂 Lisa

Those are lovely! I’ve been supporting small businesses as much as I can throughout this as well…it’s so hard for them to survive during lock down. Restaurants, too. We can only hope that this doesn’t last too much longer, but no one really knows!

  3. I can see what you mean about how unique they are – and recognisable from their designs. It’s lovely how you’re supporting small businesses. It’s a wonderful thing to do and ensures that money stays within the local economy. Well done Nikki!

  4. Hi! Nikki,

Now these designs I absolutely love! and I can see where Lisa is coming from, as one or two of them definitely have that WM look and feel to them, even down to the colourways.

It’s quite good that they have also found some retail stockists for the product range, I see there is one up in your neck of the woods, with another in Ludgershall, which is not too far away from us. ( Here’s hoping that all these independent retailers reopen when this is all over of course!)

To save a few pennies, I always scout the charity shops looking for quirky notebooks for jotting down relevant storyline points when I am reading, as the pages tend to get wrecked then thrown away when I am done with the review.

I do keep promising myself however, that I would like to actually start writing ‘proper’ letters again and finding a small group of penfriends.

I used to pride myself on having very neat handwriting, however I am finding myself what can best be described as scribbling down my reading notes, then feeling disgusted when I have to read back from them!

I am also seriously considering collecting bookmarks, as they are small enough not to overwhelm the space I have in mind for them and hopefully they won’t even be noticed by a certain person!!

Thanks for sharing yet another worthy, small business for us to support 🙂

The artwork on these is beautiful! My favorite is the dinosaurs, but I love the foxes, too.

I mailed you a card the day after I received your last and hopefully it won’t take as long to get there as it did the time before.

I shall try to remember to use one in my next letter to you. I did receive a couple of letters yesterday which only took a week or so to get here, so fingers crossed mail seems to be moving across the Atlantic a bit quicker now.

Papio’s designs are wonderful! They have a quality that reminds me of some medieval artworks I’ve seen – although I doubt those earlier artists ever conceived of dinosaurs.

  7. I’m loving this series and I think this is my favourite one you’ve shared to date. SO many of these designs are absolutely stunning. I’m trying to choose a favourite and my shortlist still has about 5 on. Thank you so much for sharing these x

  8. Very pretty postcards. It’s rather admirable that you made a personal decision to support and promote small businesses. I feel certain that the businesses are appreciative. Hope you are having a delightful weekend.
