Stationery Sunday: Italix Deacon’s Doodle

Stationery Sunday: Italix Deacon’s Doodle

As you may know, I’m a bit of a fan of fountain pens. They have a variety of nibs and the range of inks available these days is almost endless. What more could you want? So, having been asked to review the Italix Deacon’s Doodle fountain pen, I was intrigued. I’d never heard of the brand before, so I was interested to see how it would perform.

The Italix Deacon’s Doodle fountain pen can be bought on its own or alongside the Deacon’s Doodle ballpoint pen as a set. I was lucky enough to try out both in the set, though I’m not usually a fan of ballpoints.

The pens are made of stainless steel and have a nice weight to them. They feel like they could take some bashing if you didn’t keep them in their case, but at the same time, they’re not overly heavy. Considering their price range (£27.95 for the set, £14.99 for just the fountain pen or £12.95 for just the ballpoint pen), they punch well above their weight for budget pens. They would make a wonderful gift for anyone, especially with the option of having them engraved.

The Italix Deacon’s Doodle fountain pen includes a converter but also takes standard international (euro) cartridges. I filled the pen with Akkerman #13 Simplisties Violet (a lovely purple ink) and set to writing a letter (It’s been snowing outside for days, perfect for settling down to catch up on letters to penpals).

I found the medium steel nib (other options available) of the fountain pen to be smooth and it performed well. It’s not the wettest of writers, but it’s not too dry either. I wrote a 4 page letter comfortably and with no issues at all.

The fountain pen cap is a push click cap and closes with a satisfying click, although I must admit to trying to unscrew the cap a few times (force of habit).

The Italix Deacon’s Doodle ballpoint pen takes any G2 refill and was supplied with a black one (though I tend to prefer blue). Like the fountain pen, the ballpoint writes smoothly and is comfortable to hold.

The two pens make a lovely set and would make a great gift. They certainly look and feel like they’re worth more than their retail price.

Italix – A brand to look out for, I’d say!

Fountain pens can be pricy, so this does look like quite a bargain! I’m one who prefers black to blue ink. If I used a fountain pen, though, I’d probably branch out into some of the wonderful colors you share here!

I don’t miss the scratching sound of a fountain pen but there is something about them! I used to have a very fancy metallic purple fountain pen at school that I loved! Also, I remember the ink eraser pens, so fun!

I don’t know about differing colours for ballpoints (this only came with a black refill), but there are so many amazing colours for fountain pens out there.

The pretty engraving makes the fountain pen look so much more expensive than it actually is! I love the violet ink too, my favourite colour! x
