I’ve always been a fan of stationery, buying notebooks and pens when I already have plenty. That love for stationery was renewed on a recent visit to see my friend Lisa.
Lisa has a pen for every occassion and is most definitely addicted to fountain pens. She has beautiful notebooks and I’m envious of her bullet journal set-up. If I ever need stationery advice, she’s my go-to person! In fact, I think her collection warrants it’s own blog post (What do you think, Lisa?).
So after seeing all Lisa’s stationery goodies, I decided to treat myself. Here’s what I got:
Nuuna Milky Way Large Notebook (from Pure Pens)

Masté Nightsky Washi Tape (from Bureau Direct)
Zebra Z-Grip Floral Ballpoint Pen Set of 3 (from Cult Pens)

3 Pilot Frixion Erasable Rollerball Pens (from Pure Pens)
So, a premium notebook and pencil case, with cheap pens and some nice washi tape. A nice mix!
I have never spent more than a couple of pounds on a notebook before (usually sticking to my trusty Pukka Pads), but I just couldn’t resist the Nuuna Milky Way Notebook and you’ve got to treat yourself every once in a while, right?
Priced at over £20, the Nuuna Milky Way Large Notebook is definitely a premium notebook. It feels it, too. The cover is a smooth bonded leather with a silver milky way or rather ink splat design which has been applied via silk screen printing. The design continues around the edges of the pages. I just love the feel of the cover, I could sit and hold it all day.
The cover holds 246 pages of 120gsm Swedish Munken premium paper which is lovely to write on. It’s thicker paper than many notepads, for example: Pukka Pads tend to use 80gsm paper and your standard printer paper is 80-100gsm. The paper takes my rollerball, ballpoint and highlighter pens well, but you can expect a little show-through with fountain pens. The notebook is bound in such a way that the page spread will lay flat while you’re writing, which is a surprise for a notebook of this thickness. The pages aren’t lined, but use a dot-grid which is popular with bullet journals these days. I must say I would prefer lined paper, but it’s a small sacrifice to make for such a wonderful notebook.
My Nuuna Milky Way Notebook is the large version at 165 x 220mm, which is slightly larger than A5 (148 x 210mm). However, it is available in a smaller version at 108 x 150mm, which is slightly larger than A6 (105 x 148mm).
Would I buy another Nuuna notebook? Definitely! They might be pricey, but they’re worth it and there are so many designs to choose from.
The Genuine Field Stationery Roll Pencil Case is a simple roll pocket case made of cotton canvas with a leather tie which simply wraps around the case. It’s available in a number of colours, but I chose black as it matches my notebook and shoulder bag. It fits my pens perfectly, but the only downside to it is that the material seems to attact any fluff, hair or dust that might be about.
The Masté Nightsky Washi Tape is great for sticking things in my notebook (which I use as a journal). Washi tape is very much decorative masking tape and can be used for all kinds of things. Many people use it in journalling and crafting these days. There are many colours and designs available. Again, this Masté Nightsky Washi Tape matches my journal and has a couple of quotes on it – “It’s a starry starry night” and “Fly me to the moon” – with stars and a moon in the background.
I love the Zebra Z-Grip Floral Ballpoint Pens. They’re comfortable to hold and easy to write with, and the black, purple and pink colour set is right up my street.
The Pilot Frixion Erasable Rollerball Pens are wonderful. They’re a pleasure to write with and if you happen to make a mistake (it happens to the best of us!), the end of the pen can be used to erase the ink. No using correction fluid here! I haven’t experienced it, but I have heard that the ink in these pens can fade in heat. If this happens you just need to cool down the paper to -10°. Similarly, if your Fixion pens have been exposed to heat and seem not to be working, put them in the freezer for a short period too, then wait for them to return to room temperature and they should work fine again. Magic!
I tend to use the Pilot Spotliter VW Twin-tip Highlighter for underlining and such. It’s great that it’s a twin-tip pen as it means I have yellow highlighter fluid and pink highlighter fluid all in one pen.

I love stationery and that notebook and washi tape would be perfect for my son who’s just finished an astrophysics degree. My favourite stationery is my filofax, I use it for just about everything.

I do like the idea of the “Pilot Frixion Erasable Rollerball Pens”, I shall definitely be on the look out for those.
I do love notebooks and pens of any kind, although as I tend to mainly use them for jotting down quotes, thoughts and notes about the books I read, I don’t tend to invest too much money in them, as I end up by taking out the pages when a review is complete.
I used to keep a journal, but gave that up many years ago. Like yourself though, I do prefer lined paper. We had an English teacher at junior school, who used to take great pride in a class who structured all their letters and words to be a certain height between the lines on the page, and that habit has continued for me to this day.

It’s just the edges that are like that… The pages are white paper with a dot-grid rather than lines. It’s lovely to write in. Would definitely recommend one 🙂
