The Winning Shot

The Winning Shot

A day out at The Photography Show at Birmingham NEC this month was just what I needed. My friend and I got there just after opening and had a great day out. We watched a couple of talks, wandered around the stalls, entered various prize draws, tried out some equipment, and generally had a good time.

My favourite talk was “Passes, pits & premieres: What it really takes to shoot the events photographers dream of” by Dr Denise Maxwell. Denise provided a valuable insight into what goes into event photography, including how to get started, the best types of shots (and how to capture them in tight spaces), the pay, and much more. She was even kind enough to stop and chat with attendees afterwards.

We had already been around the Creator Playground once, taking photos, but we then realised they were holding a competition, so we went around again! This time, we picked up one of the Samsung S26 Ultra mobile phones to try out and headed back into the Creator Playground to take some (hopefully) winning shots. We submitted our photos and went on our merry way.

I didn’t give the Creator Playground competition too much thought after that. It was only when I returned home and checked my email that I realised I had won the Creator Playground competition! The prize? A brand new Samsung S26 Ultra mobile phone, a tripod and a microphone. I couldn’t believe it!

Thanks to my friend for playing the role of the model in my photograph (and for pushing me to enter).

The moral of the story? Have faith in yourself and enter those competitions. You never know, you might win!

Congratulations for you, Nikki. That is just amazing and quite the surprise and also the gift you won. We have a Dutch saying I thought of, “You never know how a cow catches a hare”…. translated in normal English “You never know how things will turn out”….. I am so happy for you!! and I love the picture.
    Have a wonderful day.
