Being lactose-free, if thereβs one thing I miss itβs a proper milkshake, so a few years ago I decided to make my own thick banana milkshake at home. Having found Swedish Glace (Dairy Free) Heavenly Chocolate ice cream, this has now merged into a delicious homemade thick chocolate and banana milkshake.
This milkshake can be made as a normal dairy milkshake or as a dairy-free milkshake. Simply use the ice cream and milk of your choice.
To make my homemade chocolate and banana milkshake, you will need:
2 bananas
2-3 scoops of ice cream (I used Swedish Glace Heavenly Chocolate)
Milk (I used rice milk)
Food processor
Put the two bananas in the food processor with a dash of milk and give it a whizz around until you get a puree-like consistency. This will only take seconds, but you might need to push some escaped pieces of banana back down into the puree and give it another whizz.
Add the scoops of ice cream before giving it another whizz around. Then add the milk (I tend to add a small glass full, but this really depends on how thick you want your milkshake) and a final quick whizz.
VoilΓ !
If you want the milkshake a bit thicker, simply add some more ice cream at the end.
This milkshake really is delicious (even if I say so myself!). You can really taste the banana and chocolate in it.
Now, Iβd love to find a dairy-free strawberry ice cream to make a homemade banana & strawberry milkshake.
That sounds delicious!! Even though I’m not a big ice cream fan, I’ve recently discovered a brand called “SO Delicious”. They have flavors made from coconut, soy, almond, and cashew milk. They do have a strawberry flavor! I think it’s a coconut milk variety. The only problem is they’re so much pricier than regular dairy versions! I’ve never tried rice milk.
I’ll look out for it, thanks π
Hi Nikki,
‘Swedish Glace’ do make a raspberry ice-cream, available from Ocado shopping …

Or Waitrose …

Not for me though, I’m afraid! I absolutely hate milk of any description, so a milk shake is never something I would order from a menu.
I do love bananas and chocolate together though π

My local health food shop does the Swedish Glace Raspberry ice cream, but I’m not really a fan of raspberry.
I can’t drink milk on its own, but do love a milkshake.
Mmm – sounds lovely!
It does sound nice! I haven’t tried rice milk yet. I use almond & hazelnut milks regularly but am not keen on soya milk.
Have seen a two-ingredient strawberry ice cream on myfussyeater.com if you fancied making your own. What could go wrong with only two ingredients!! xx
I’ll have to check it out, thanks π
How easy is that. It sounds delicious.
I looooove banana milkshakes! They are my favorite ones. I am not craving one like right now. This one you have made looks and sounds incredibly delicious to me!

It is delicious, even if I say so myself! Banana milkshake with vanilla ice cream is delicious too, but the chocolate ice cream just adds that bit of extra flavour.
Banana and chocolate are one of my favorite combinations – I never thought about making a smoothie with rice milk but it’s sounds like it’d be good! I need to give it a try!
Do give it a go π
Nice & easy! Definitely will be trying this for later. Thank you!
I love milkshakes! My kids too so this is a must try recipe. I hope the weather will be warmer soon in Hungary then we definitely try your idea.
I hope they enjoy it π
This looks absolutely delicious! And it’s so quick and easy to make. I’ll have to keep this recipe and try it out.
I hope you enjoy it π
One of my favourite drinks though I prefer mine with vanilla ice-cream.
Great recipe, I’ll be certain to share it with my lactose intolerant friends at the readers group who are always on the look out for new things to try.
It can be enjoyed by anyone, just use the appropriate ice cream and milk. The Banana Milkshake using vanilla ice cream instead of chocolate is delicious too π
This looks like heaven! Delicious!

Thanks for dropping by.
I’m vegan so also haven’t had a “milk”shake in years – this looks incredible! I’ll have to try it out. Swedish glace is just the best isn’t it! xx
