Bluebells and Bees

Bluebells and Bees

We’ve been through pretty much everything the weather can throw at us lately. Only a week or so ago we’d got snow and hailstones, and yesterday we had thunderstorms. Today we’ve got glorious sunshine! I couldn’t help but get out in the garden with my camera and macro lens to get some shots.

I love taking photos of bees, although it does take practice and a lot of patience! You’ll notice the black bee with the red bottom… I don’t know if I’ve seen that one about before, they usually have at least one other stripe of colour.

    It’s been a wild-weather spring globally.

Great photos, especially of the bee! Our bumblebees tend to have yellow on them rather than orange. We’ve just set up honeybee hives, too!

Lovely photos. There’s quite a few different types of bumblebee, all different colours. I think the one with the red bottom is a red-tailed bumblebee.

  3. Hi Nikki,

I am patiently waiting for the rhododendrons in our garden to flower, which shouldn’t be too far away now. We don’t really have too many pruple colours though, which is what definitely attracts the bees, so I guess that they love your garden, with its vast array of beautiful mauves and purples.

Because of the exceptionally mild winter this year, the bugs and crawlies have had their usual winter cull, so there is already a glut of the little blighters.

Greenfly is apparently rampant this spring and whilst I don’t mind being crowded en masse by bees, the fact that we are already being plagued by wasps, isn’t quite so good!

    Great Pictures 🙂

  4. Oh Dear! Can’t you tell it is late and I am tired!

I really do know how to spell purple and of course I meant to say that the bugs and crawlies HAVEN’T had their usual winter cull!

Sorry – I must do better, or at least check before I hit the send button 🙂

Beautiful photos! I love blue bells and that cute little bumble bee! I love gardening, it’s one of my favorite past times beside knitting! Very therapeutic.

I’m not sure I’d be brave enough to take photos of bees, I’m pretty much terrified of anything like that. They have come out lovely though!

If they fly near me I generally stop still and almost curl up into a ball. I’ve been stung by a wasp before, so I don’t take any chances!

Oh how I LOVE spring!! So happy to have it here finally, although it is a bit more challenging to focus on my to do list when the sun is shining. Love these pictures especially the bees, such beautiful creatures. 🙂
