Supporting Small Businesses: Cat Cafe, Liverpool

Supporting Small Businesses: Cat Cafe, Liverpool

After a couple of hours wandering around the shops in Liverpool city centre, where better a place to rest your feet, destress and relax than Liverpool’s very own Cat Cafe.

Cat Cafe, 10 Bold Street, Liverpool, L1 4DS.

Situated at the bottom end of Bold Street, the Cat Cafe is no ordinary cafe. As the name suggests, this is a cafe where you can not only indulge in a drink and some cake but you can also do it in the company of some beautiful cats. Yes, yes, I’m aware I can do that at home (as I have 2 of my own), but not everyone can, and it’s still great to spend time with other kitties. My friend and I have taken to making sure we stop by Cat Cafe during our trips to Liverpool (the latest trip was to see Bryan Adams at the M&S Bank Arena).

Having a snooze!

Rather than paying by the drink (like you would a normal cafe), you pay for the amount of time you spend there. It currently costs £1.25 per 5 minutes (e.g. £7.50 for 30 minutes, £15 for an hour) and all hot & cold drinks are free and unlimited during your visit. We usually end up staying an hour and it seems to go quite quickly!

Cat Cafe is laid out over three floors and the cats have free range over where they go within the cafe, including a private room to which they can escape if they get fed up with visitors. On our most recent visit, we went up to the first floor where most of the cats seemed to be at that time. Some were sleeping, some were playing and others were getting fuss. We’d barely sat down when one of the cats, Eliza, joined my friend on the sofa for a bit of fuss, while another cat had a good look in her handbag!

Visitors can be sure Cafe Cafe is doing everything it can to keep the cats healthy and happy. To keep the cats content, there are rules for visitors to follow (which are simple and pretty much common sense). The cats are rehomed if the cafe is no longer a suitable environment for them. Cat Cafe also supports local animal charities by running special events to raise money and awareness.

So comfortable!

We find we tend to end up chatting with fellow visitors while we’re there (“Hello!” to the lovely couple from Llandudno if you’re reading this!). Everyone is so friendly and just as excited to see the cats.

Wonderful! I’d have said there are no cat cafes here but I ran a quick online search and there appear to be at least 2 in the larger Los Angeles area and estimated 125 in the US as a whole. The LA cafes include rescue cats available for adoption 🙂

What a lovely post! We have a cat cafe here in Vancouver and although I have an allergy to cats you’ve made me want to visit! Thanks for sharing.

  3. A brand-new cat cafe just opened IN MY TOWN, and it’s adorable.
I’ve visited a small handful of cat cafes in the Midwest, and each one has it’s charms and of course…cats!
I especially love having kittens to snuggle.
Cannot recommend visiting one nearest to you.

Aww that looks like a lovely place to visit. We have a cat cafe in Bournemouth but I haven’t been. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Anca has blogged about this place before and I would LOVE to be able to visit one! (I’m one of those with just dogs at my house) Between the coffee and the cats, I might never want to leave! Thanks for sharing photos of all these lovely kitties.

  6. Ah I do love a Cat Cafe. This one looks supurrrrb!
I have been to three in the past in London, Manchester and Paris. And there is a Cat Bar in Hawkshead in the Lake District too.

I’ve been to the Cat Cafe many times, as Kelly said. 🙂 They used to have 2 branches, one in Liverpool and another one in Manchester. The Mcr one is closed now, after covid, but the one in Lpool is still going strong. I wanted to visit them last week, but they were fully booked.
How lovely to see all the cats on your blog.

Yes, we were planning a trip to the Manchester one when lockdown hit, so we never got to it, unfortunately, which is a shame as I want to visit the Sweet Mandarin Chinese restaurant which was near it.

Cat cafes seem to be popping up all over the place, they must be very popular. I know there’s one in Leeds but I’ve never been. Eleanor visited the one in Nottingham a few times when she was at uni and always wanted to bring the cats home with her!

I think we’ve got a cat café or two in Belgium too. I’ve heard of the concept but had no idea you pay for the amount of time you spend there! Well worth it to spend some time in the company of some cute felines! xxx

I literally just finished the latest Rockonteurs podcast (Gary Kemp and Guy Pratt), and their guest was Bryan Adams. He mentioned having a Liverpool concert coming up! So how was the show??

We have a cat cafe in our city. I drive by VERY fast, always hoping my wife doesn’t notice it. 🙂

Bryan Adams was brilliant! He freestyled it in the middle of the show and asked people at the front for song suggestions. I really enjoyed it and can’t believe it took me so long to go see him live!

  11. We have two within distance of us, both of which are booked up for some time to come and aren’t currently accepting any more so thank you so much for sharing your visit and all of these lovely kitties with us.

I love cat cafes. I need to find one near my new apartment. I had to find homes for my two cats when I moved as the apartment I was moving into does not allow pets I found it through a friend as in NY you have to make 40 times the rent. Made me sad but a cat cafe would help.

  13. I love these cats, they all look gorgeous. I went to the cat cafe in Manchester three years ago, it was £12 for an hour which I thought was a bit pricey just to sit among a load of cats which may or may not come to you – especially as I have two of my own – but it was a nice experience and I did get a blog post out of it 🙂 It was the sort of place where you would go as an occasional treat rather than a regular thing. It did shut down when covid hit and they rehomed the cats – sadly it hasn’t so far reopened but the last time I passed the cat beds and other things were all still in there.
