Here in Mid Wales, residents and businesses in the little town of Montgomery have been decorating their windows as part of the Montgomery Christmas Festival. I finally got around to visiting Montgomery on Christmas evening, so I thought I would share some of the windows with you.
Montgomery is a lovely little town a stone’s throw away from the Welsh border with England. It’s castle sits atop a rocky outcrop above the town and the Montgomeryshire War Memorial, on top of the town’s hill, can be seen from miles around. Once some kind of normality returns, I would certainly recommend a visit.
Unfortunately, we’re back in a “Level 4” lockdown in Wales and restricted to essential travel. Mind you, it’s currently blowing a gale outside and tipping it down, so I wouldn’t want to be going far anyway!
I do like a good window!
I had noticed!
Beautiful lighted windows
Great pictures! Lovely and festive.
What bright, cheerful displays! It looks like a lovely little town.
The windows of Montgomery are beautiful!
Lovely colourful windows, I particularly like the 3rd, 4th and 5th ones 🙂
Hi Nikki,
This looks like a lovely little place, although I can’t ever remember driving through it, despite us having visited quite a few of the places which seem to surround it!
Frome did something similar this year and organised a little trail around the town to spot the hidden objects in the shops and houses which had decorated their windows.
It’s funny how lockdown has brought out the creativity and imagination in people, which is just as well, as it takes a genius to work out the English tier system. I can foresee a full lockdown coming on any day now though, so at least we shall all know where we stand then!
It is pouring with rain and blowing a gale here too, as storm Bella powers its way through.
Let’s hope that 2021 is kinder to us all 🙂

Hi Yvonne,
Montgomery is kind of one of those places you drive to rather than through. No “A” roads go through it, only “B” roads and lanes, so it’s slightly off the beaten track.
I hope you’re well.
Nikki
Lovely windows! I haven’t eves walked my own neighborhood at night to check out the light displays, much less wandered further afield. We’re under a stay-at-home order too.
It’s lovely to see such festive windows amid the pandemic.
Stay safe.
Aren’t they beautiful? 🙂 🙂 It’s a lovely idea. Hope Christmas was cheerful for you. All the best for 2021!
How pretty they are. It’s been a very different Christmas for most of us this year but it’s nice to see that people are still making an effort, very cheering.
These are lovely pictures, Nikki, I can quite see why you’d recommend Montgomery. Fingers crossed for 2021 to bring us all better things 🙂
Beautiful, scenic and festive windows. Thanks for sharing those.
Oh, I love Christmas windows. These are beautiful. And even while I know it was probably cold, it gave me all the cozy feelings.
It was pretty cold, but actually dry for a change! I guess it was cozy the other side of the windows!
There are some desirable Hogwarts and Dickensian houses there.
They look absolutely beautiful! It’s so nice to see so many places make the effort this year. This looks adorable, it would be nice to visit next year.

Headed on over from Anabel’s blog and fun to see more festive cheer though it’s nearly over.
Delightful images!
Don’t you love the golden light of decorated windows at night? And peering into those beautiful residences with their lovely trees and lights? Oh, it’s beautiful and I can imagine this town is incredibly charming!
Aw I love festive window displays! I remember looking at all the shops downtown with my parents as a kid. This year, I’ve loved just seeing the houses and windows decorated in my neighbourhood. Hope your holidays are going well!
How beautiful! Thanks for sharing the photos of the windows! In my neighborhood we’ve had more outdoor decorations than ever before, and I think it’s just people’s way of trying to spread some Christmas cheer. And it’s working! Happy Holidays!
Gorgeous pictures. I would love to visit Wales once again, as this year I wasn’t able to, due to lockdowns and so. Hopefully next year will be better.
Happy New Year!
Thanks for sharing, love them!
What a lovely tradition and Montgomery looks idyllic. Thank you for sharing your great photos, Nikki
The windows are delightful and uplifting.
We were put into tier three which meant our planned New Years Eve meal at a local restaurant was cancelled.
We decided to honour the booking by ordering a takeaway from there instead.
What a lovely post, these pictures are so beautiful and cosy. Montgomery looks a gorgeous town x
