This year I’ve been making the effort to get back into my reading. Having read 4 Discworld books by Terry Pratchett in a row, I’m now a quarter of the way through the Discworld series. I’m thoroughly enjoying being emersed in Pratchett’s Discworld, but came to the sudden realisation that I need to slow down reading the books… With Terry’s sad demise last year came reality of the end of Discworld. I’ve still got a lot of the series to read, but I don’t want to get to the end too quickly!
The last four Discworld books I’ve read.
If you’ve never read the Discworld series, I would definitely recommend it, no matter what genres you enjoy reading. The Discworld books slot into the comic fantasy genre and really do make readers chuckle. I seriously can’t rave about them enough. The books in the Discworld series can be read in any order. However, if you’d like to enter Discworld, I’d recommend starting at the beginning with The Colour of Magic and reading them in order (like me!).
I’m not sure what I’m going to read next, but I’ve got a hankering for a crime thriller. Do you have any recommendations?
Below are some bargain books* on Amazon I thought I’d share with you.
First and foremost are Storm Front and Fool Moon – books 1 & 2 of The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher at just 99p each. Storm Front was the very first book I reviewed online on my old website (before blogging was a thing) and I received a very nice message from the author himself. If you’re into urban fantasy and you’ve not yet heard of or read The Dresden Files books, where have you been?!
Head on over to Jim Butcher’s website for chapter one of Storm Front, to see if it’s your cup of tea.
Just What Kind of Mother Are You by Paula Daly is another bargain at just 99p. Set in the cold atmosphere of a wintery Lake District, this book is a tense and emotional thriller which drags you in and doesn’t let go. What could be worse than a child going missing? When it’s your best friend’s child. And it was on your watch… It was one of my favourite books of 2013.
The Wolf of Wall Street by Jordan Belfort is a memoir by the former kingpin of the notorious investment firm Stratton Oakmont. I haven’t yet read the book, but the film based on it (starring Leonardo DiCaprio) is a thoroughly entertaining, rock and roll rollercoast ride of greed, power and excess. As it’s just 99p at the moment, I think this one is going to end up on my boyfriend’s Kindle rather soon!
Have you spotted any bargain books recently?
