Stationery Sunday: Elrohir Leather Steampunk Traveller’s Notebook

I’m a bit of a fan of traveller’s notebooks. I have several and even use one as my purse*, so when I was given the opportunity to review an Elrohir Leather traveller’s notebook, I jumped at the chance!

Elrohir Leather is run by the lovely Mischa who lives in rural North Wales. It’s great to be able to support a crafter from Wales, especially one so talented. Elrohir Leather traveller’s notebooks are totally handmade – from being hand-cut and hand-sewn to being hand-finished with love. What more could you ask for?

Today I am reviewing Elrohir Leather’s Steampunk Traveller’s Notebook. One thing I’ve found with Elrohir Leather’s traveller’s notebooks is that they are all made with a good quality, thick leather and this one is no exception. At 3 – 3.5mm thick, this leather is strong and sturdy. For additional support and usability, this one has stitched-in pockets too.

Both the front cover and the inside pockets are debossed with a steampunk design which has then been decorated with accents of gold to enhance the brown leather and design. I love that the Elrohir Leather logo has been cleverly incorporated within the design on the inside back pocket without taking away from it. I love this design (the photos don’t do it justice) and I don’t want to let it go!

This traveller’s notebook is extra-wide pocket-sized and can be jam-packed full with notebooks or even used to carry thicker hardback notebooks. There is enough space for 8 pocket notebooks. “Pocket” sized notebooks are 90 x 140 mm or 3.5 x 5.5 in and are also known as “Field Notes” size.

If you don’t have any notebook inserts to go in a traveller’s notebook, then that’s not a problem because Elrohir Leather can also supply them too! The inserts come in bundles of three and are available in a wide range of paper colours including white, cream, pastels, parchment, kraft and even blackout. Current options include plain or dot-grid, but I’m hoping they’ll add lined to the range soon. You can also choose from square or rounded corners. If there’s something you’d like but can’t see, it’s always worth contacting Elrohir Leather to see what they can do for you. Fountain pen users will be pleased to know that the paper is fountain pen friendly.

Elrohir Leather make a range of traveller’s notebooks in different designs and sizes. A few can be found in stock and ready to send, whilst others are made to order. Do contact Mischa if you’re after a custom design as she’s very approachable. It’s also worth joining the Elrohir Leather page on Facebook as occasionally new and unique designs pop-up for sale (I’ve bought a couple that way!).

An Elrohir Leather traveller’s notebook should last a lifetime, but I can guarantee you that just one won’t be enough. You’ll convince yourself that you need another… Another design, another size maybe? Believe me, once you get one, others will follow!

* If you’d like know how I use a traveller’s notebook as my purse, let me know in the comments and I’ll write up a blog post.

Oh, yes, please. I’m looking at doing his, a well as using it for my mobile case (thinking through the design at present) so am interested to see how you do it.

  2. Leta says:

This notebook looks gorgeous! I love myself a good notebook, especially if it’s a traveller’s. I’ve been on a lookout for a new addition and this one definitely caught my eye. Thanks for the review!

I didn’t realize how small this was until you mentioned the notebook size. My Field Notes would fit in it! I’m SO impressed with this (and need one like I need a hole in my head).

Yes, do give us a post on how you use yours.

It’s really lovely. I’ve never used a travellers notebook, I’m not sure I’d get on with the notebook style of things, I like my Filofax where I can move the pages about, but saying that I’d love to give one a go.

  5. Anca says:

I love the design, is gorgeous. The items look like they have a very good quality.
As I’m never wearing, buying, or using real leather, I wouldn’t be able to enjoy these notebooks though.

I’m soooo in love with this TN! I already have one of Mischa’s Seagrass journals and it’s gorgeous!

Oh, oh – deliciously beautifully, wonderfully tempting. I have to confess I covet your larger purple one :).

I must have a look at the website, not that I need a new notebook, but with something so gorgeous what has ‘need’ got to do with it!
