It’s nearly time again for InCoWriMo.

“InCoWriMo?”, I hear you ask.

International Correspondence Writing Month

The mission, if you choose to accept it, is to hand-write a letter, postcard, note or card to someone every day in the month of February.

Regular readers might remember I took part in InCoWriMo for the first time in 2017 and I really enjoyed doing so. Much to my surprise, I actually managed to complete the challenge and wrote 28 letters, postcards and cards which were hand-delivered locally and mailed throughout the UK and around the world. I also received a few letters and postcards too.

Who do I write to?

I write to friends and penpals, but they alone wouldn’t fill the 28 days. However, there are plenty of places to find people to write to. I even found someone to write to in my blog comments!

If you just want someone to write to just for InCoWriMo rather than long-term, then Postcrossing is a great website to join. It enables you to send one-off postcards to random people around the world (and you get one back from another random person).

Of course, there is the InCoWriMo website. You can add your address to their list (due to be published on 18th January) or pick people from the address list to write to.

I’m a member of a couple of penpal groups on Facebook (we all share a common interest – fountain pens) from which I have gained some long-term penpals, but there are also members looking for people to write to for InCoWriMo.

There are also penpal websites such as Letter Writers Alliance which you can join and then request a penpal (I’m a member!).

Other ideas are to write to a celebrity, your local Member of Parliament, an elderly relative or a long lost friend. My local newspaper recently published a request for a penpal from a lady in Japan.

You don’t even have to write to 28 different people. You could write 28 letters just to one person… maybe a loved one. Don’t forget that St Valentine’s Day is in February!
