3 Gigs and an Actor

3 Gigs and an Actor

Is it me or did June fly by? I must admit I had a great month. I really enjoyed myself and they do say time flies when you’re having fun!

For me, June began with me and a friend going to see Take That at the Genting Arena in Birmingham. As per usual, Take That put on an amazing show (they always do!). They had a circular stage in the middle of the arena, meaning everyone had a great view. They also had a podium each on the edge of the standing area, enabling some fans to high five or shake hands with them (lucky for them!). Take That’s support act was 90’s girl group, All Saints. They played all their hits and, despite not being a fan, I enjoyed seeing them.

Rather than have a long journey home after the concert, I stayed the night at the Novotel Birmingham Airport Hotel and spent the following day in Birmingham (including visiting the Pen Museum).

Next up was my birthday. I celebrated it by having a wine tasting evening with a couple of friends. I’d been sent some Prosecco and Rosé to review, so thought it was the perfect opportunity to drink it (review to come!). I also treated myself to some jewellery from Hairy Growler.

On 21st June, I headed down to Cardiff to see Robbie Williams in concert at the Principality Stadium. It turned out to be the hottest June day for over 40 years! Robbie was brilliant (as usual) and even had his Dad up on stage for a song. His support act was synthpop duo, Erasure. They played their classic hits, as well as new releases, and really got the crowd going.

The next day, I met up with my old friend, Ellie, for breakfast. We grew up together before she moved away, but we’ve always kept in touch. It was wonderful to catch up again as we hadn’t seen each other in ages.

I was barely home for a few days before I was back on the train. On 26th June, I headed up to Manchester to see Kiefer Sutherland and his band play at Gorilla. In stark contrast to Robbie’s concert at the massive Principality Stadium, Kiefer’s gig was at a small club and much more up close and personal. I managed to get a place at the barrier and had a great view for the evening. One jump forward and I’d have been on stage! Kiefer’s support act was a female duo called Sound of the Sirens, well worth listening too.

Just three days later, I went to An Evening with Tony Robinson to celebrate the release of the paperback version of his autobiography, No Cunning Plan. It was another fantastic evening out.

July is looking a little more relaxed, at the moment. All I have planned is a couple of friends visiting for a weekend and a visit to the British FIM Speedway Grand Prix in Cardiff. Another good month ahead, I think!

Did you have a good June? Do you enjoy going to concerts?

You had quite a busy month! I’ve just returned from an annual visit with a friend I’ve had for more than 50 years. We try to pack as much into our 24 hours or so as we possibly can. Isn’t it great having childhood friends that we stay in contact with!

I’ve been to my share of concerts and enjoyed the majority of them, but in general I prefer studio music.

Wow, what a busy month. It’s years since I’ve been to a concert but Eleanor managed to get Ed Sheeran tickets when they went on sale yesterday. She went to see him in April and had a fantastic time. She’s got the best part of a year now to wait until she sees him again.

Great fun and there’s been some excellent weather for outdoor shows. Great to see some live music too and even to dabble with some acts that are not on your main list.

We saw Tony Robinson at Hay a few weeks ago, although he was a ‘punter’ on the day we were along, so he came past us on the way to the bar in one of the tents.

I love Kiefer Sutherland aka Jack Bauer, what a legend! It must’ve been amazing to see him in the flesh, though I’ve heard his country singing is perhaps not that good? 24 isn’t the same without him!
My friend saw Take That and Robbie too and she loved it. I’ve been to a few gigs myself recently (Guns n Roses, The Killers) and nothing beats the buzz you get from seeing some of your favourite bands live.

Woo, you saw Take That! It’s so nice to hear they are still rocking out. And way to make a night of it by staying at the hotel after 🙂

Really lovely June, Take That and Robbie Williams are fab! I imagine you enjoyed the Pen Museum. I’ve visited a few years ago and it was so interesting, much more exciting that I imagined.

Sounds like you had a fantastic month! I didn’t get a chance to go to more concerts this summer but I’m going to a festival in August and I’m looking forward to it 🙂
